ABOUT OUR LOGO
Welcome to Seven Directions® Breathwork Training. We would love to tell you a little more about our ethos and the intention behind our logo.
Founder Steph has a long time affinity with birds of prey. From working with red kites for her fortieth birthday (many moons ago now!) to her current practice, her fascination with these incredible birds has run through all of her work.
In her shamanic practice, she has been fortunate enough to be gifted a number of powerful feathers for use in healing work. One of the greatest teachings Steph ever received around the wearing and use of feathers in shamanic practice was that in indigenous cultures, feathers are gifted as recognition of certain rites of passage and honouring status and should never be worn by non indigenous people for dressing up or for appropriating identity.
Early on in her training, when on a Shamanic Walking practice in the forest, Steph innocently found a feather, picked it up and placed it into her hair. Her teacher Chris Lüttichau immediately instructed her to remove it, compassionately but clearly telling her why and explaining about the importance of how feathers are used and gifted within these cultures. That humbling lesson stays with her to this day.
When we ‘take’ from other cultures without respect, understanding or reciprocity of some kind, we ignore the imbalances of power and colonisation in our world. To this extent, our program has committed to tithe 5% of all revenue to organisations working directly as guardians of this beautiful planet and the original peoples. We intend to create more harmony and more beauty in this world by living and speaking from the heart, our true wisdom keeper and guide. It is said that philosopher Karl Jung was once studying with Native American elders, who told him that they considered Westerners to be crazy, because they thought with their minds. Jung reportedly replied: “why, what do you think with?” to which the elders simply took at fist to the heart.
Our logo is based upon the Eagle, a symbol of power, protection, strength, leadership, vision and nobility. The Eagle is able to hold vision and take flight, not getting lost in the detail at ground level.
In working with this symbol, we commit to upholding the pledge to work in community within the guiding principles of the Sacred Circle and The Beauty Way, a Navajo/Diné way of living in harmony with the Earth and her people.
“In beauty I walk
With beauty before me I walk
With beauty behind me I walk
With beauty above me I walk
With beauty around me I walk
It has become beauty again
It has become beauty again
It has become beauty again
It has become beauty again”
