PRESENCE IN BREATHWORK

Conscious breathing increases awareness of the present moment

Because we can only breathe in the present, consciously breathing builds presence.

Our presence is our point of access to resourcefulness and mental clarity; it’s a tool to assist integration of emotions with much greater ease and it reconnects us to ourselves and others. If you have ever been around anyone who is fully present in the moment with you, you will instantly recognise the quality of energy they bring, the gift they offer you in that presence.

As an infant or young child, most of us breathed naturally and easily, though for many, our developmental environments failed us - they simply weren’t well informed.

As a result, we held unintegrated emotions (trauma) in our bodies and most likely became uncomfortable with who we are. We may have unknowingly taken on guilt or shame, readily accepting that we should be someone other than our natural self.

We of course, did not know better for we placed our trust in the ‘word’ of our guides though life, as being ‘correct’.

At this young age, we may then have experienced a range of conflicting and confusing emotions when what we felt no longer matched up with what we were being told. Our inner tuition systems or self trust began to break down, and we then found ourselves in internal conflict, having become in some ways, maladapted.

Inauthenticity then becomes a habit, and our natural breath, the purest accompaniment to our felt sense, and the messenger and carrier of all emotions and experiences, becomes obscured right along with it.

Gradually, we learned that we cannot trust ourselves, all too often finding ourselves living in a ‘guards out’ manner, waiting for the next disappointment, hurt, or betrayal of trust. We ‘prove’ that our perception of the world is accurate and in doing so, reinforce those original maladapted beliefs.

We give up our personal power and authority in the name of self doubt.

There is good news though! Know though that underneath all the impositions, holdings and constraints, our natural breath still persists.

Know that through conscious breathing and other embodiment practices, we can do do change our neural pathways, creating for ourselves a more trusting place of ‘resting into self’. Wouldn’t that be wonderful - to fully and completely trust oneself in this world?

Breath is an excellent vehicle for accessing the deeper levels of the self. It can bring us face to face with things about ourselves that might otherwise remain inaccessible, lurking in the shadows of our existence and yet still running the show!

We have seen remarkable things happen in conscious connected breathwork sessions! Perhaps yours will be the next one we are fortunate enough to bear witness to?
